Ancestral Connection Retreat in the Putumayo Jungle

Ayahuasca, nature and Amazonian wisdom in Colombia

From 5 to 15 November 2026

A path of medicine, jungle and ancestral wisdom

The Putumayo is not just a destination.
It is a territory of medicine.

A land where the jungle speaks through water, plants, songs, silence and the ancestral memory of the people who have guarded this knowledge for generations.

This retreat was born as an invitation to enter into the profound relationship with the Amazonian territory, with the Yagé medicine (the name given there to Ayahuasca) and with a way of understanding life where nature is not a stage, but a living teacher.

Throughout 11 days, We will walk through a carefully designed process of opening the body, clearing the energy field, listening to the heart and allowing the medicine to reveal what needs to be seen, understood or released.

This is not a tourist experience or a superficial search for intensity.

It is a path of respect.
A journey to the root.
A deep listening to the forest, to medicine and to oneself.

What makes this retreat unique?

Medicine in its living territory

Rainforest, water and sacred sites

Amazonian cosmovision and integration

The territory and its energy

Putumayo: the jungle as a living temple

Putumayo is a gateway to the Colombian Amazon.

A territory of water, mountains, jungle, medicinal plants and ancestral memory. Here nature is not perceived as something external, but as a living presence that accompanies, teaches and transforms.

Every sound of the forest, every river, every path and every ceremony reminds us that the healing process does not occur separately from the land, but in communion with it.

Indigenous tradition and community medicine

The encounter with indigenous communities allows us to approach a more communitarian and ancestral dimension of the medicine, understanding that Ayahuasca does not belong to an individualistic experience, but to a shared memory.

The presence of the community reminds us of the importance of respect, reciprocity and humility in approaching these medicines.

Here we are not going to consume a tradition.
Let us listen to it, honour it and learn to relate to it.

Unique natural sites

Throughout the retreat we will visit different natural spaces in Putumayo: waterfalls, rivers, jungle trails and places of great beauty and energetic force that  allow us to integrate the ceremonial process through the body, water and direct contact with nature. After the medicine nights, walking in the jungle, bathing in living waters or contemplating the power of a waterfall can become a profound form of cleansing, rest and understanding.

Who is this retreat for?
For people who...

They feel a deep call to Amazonia

They seek a profound process of transformation

They want to understand medicine from tradition

Retreat Experiences and Practices

Click on each button for a detailed description of each experience.

Ayahuasca ceremonies

The heart of the retreat will be the Yagé ceremonies accompanied by Taita Manuel Díaz.

Each ceremony opens a space for cleansing, vision, introspection and spiritual connection. Through chanting, the presence of the Taita, the strength of the medicine and the support of the group, we will enter into a gradual process of opening, understanding and transformation.

Yagé (the name given in Colombia to Ayahuasca) is not lived here as an isolated experience, but as part of a broader path of relationship with the forest, the territory, tradition and one's own soul.

Word Spaces

Spaces for listening, speaking and transmitting knowledge.

In them we will be able to share questions, receive guidance from the Taita, integrate understandings and approach the Amazonian cosmovision from a slower and more reflective experience.

Not everything happens during the ceremony. Often, clarity comes later: in a conversation, in a simple question, in the shared silence or in a word that internally orders what has been experienced.

These spaces will be essential for the experience to be more deeply understood, grounded and integrated.

Traditional cleaning

During the retreat there will be different spaces for physical, energetic and spiritual cleansing.

These cleansings may include Kambo, sahumerios, nettle and other purgative plants used within the traditional Amazonian context.

The purpose of these practices is to prepare the body, move burdens, open the energy field and promote greater clarity for working with medicine.

Each cleansing will be accompanied with care, respect and attention to the moment of each person. It is not about forcing processes, but about helping the body and spirit to let go of what it no longer needs to hold on to.

Cooking and preparation

One of the most meaningful experiences of the retreat will be participating in the preparation and cooking of the medicine with the Taita.

This moment allows us to approach Yajé from a different perspective: not only as a medicine to be received, but also as a living plant, process, fire, patience, intention and relationship.

Cooking the medicine is also a way of getting in touch with its spirit, understanding the care it requires and honouring the path that exists before the ceremony.

The preparation of Yagé reminds us that medicine begins long before we drink it. It begins in intention, in respect and in the way we approach it.

Teachings on medicinal plants

The retreat will include learning about medicinal plants and their traditional use.

The Amazon is a great living school, where each plant has a strength, a function and a particular way of relating to human beings.

Approaching this knowledge requires humility and respect. It is not just about learning “what a plant is for”, but about understanding that plants are part of a living network of wisdom, care and reciprocity.

This space will allow us to broaden our view of medicine beyond the Yajé ceremony.

Yagé planting

The programme includes a Yagé planting ritual as an act of reciprocity with the medicine.

After receiving, we also learn to give back.
After asking, we also learn to care.

Planting represents a concrete way of honouring the plant, the territory and the continuity of the path. It is a simple and profound gesture that reminds us that medicine is not something that is consumed, but a relationship that is cultivated.

To sow Yagé is to sow memory, gratitude and commitment to life.

Nature, waterfalls and jungle

During the retreat we will experience different outings to natural areas of Putumayo, among waterfalls, rivers, trails and jungle landscapes.

These experiences will allow the body to breathe, the nervous system to regulate and medicine to integrate through direct contact with nature.

Water, land and forest will be an active part of the process.
Not as decoration, but as teachers.

Walking, bathing, contemplating and resting in these spaces will help us to allow what we experience in ceremony to find root in the body and in presence.

Cultural experiences

The retreat will also open up spaces for contact with the cultural and community dimension of Putumayo.

The visit to the CEA (Centro de Experimentación Amazonico) and the meeting with Mocoa will bring us closer to Amazonian education initiatives, conservation, local medicine, handicrafts and daily life in the territory.

These experiences will help us understand that medicine does not exist separately from a culture, a land and a community.

After several days of interior work, these spaces offer an important transition: taking what has been learned out into the world, looking at the territory from a broader perspective and beginning to integrate the experience into everyday life.

Rest and integration

The retreat will include days and moments of deep rest.

Integration is an essential part of the path with master plants. Not everything is understood in the moment of ceremony. Sometimes the body needs to sleep, write, walk, be silent or simply let the experience settle inside.

These spaces will allow us to assimilate what we have experienced without haste, respecting the internal rhythms of each person.

Medicine opens doors.
Integration allows them to be crossed with awareness.

A careful, safe and accompanied Amazon experience

Travelling to the heart of Putumayo is not the same as attending a conventional retreat.

The jungle has its own rhythms, its own codes and its own intensity. That is why this experience has been designed so that you can get in touch with the depths of the Amazonian territory without having to face the logistical, cultural and practical complexity of getting there on your own.

Our purpose is to bridge the gap between the wild and ancestral experience of the jungle and the real needs of a western person who wishes to live this path with safety, clarity and accompaniment.

Throughout the process, we will provide support in the prior preparation, the arrival in the territory, internal displacements, communication, translation when necessary and the relationship with the people, spaces and communities that will be part of the retreat.

This allows each participant to give themselves more fully to the experience, knowing that there is a careful structure underpinning the journey.

It is not about taming the jungle or softening its mystery.
It is about being able to approach it with respect, responsibility and prepared logistics.

The retreat combines direct knowledge of the territory, the link with local people and communities, the therapeutic and integrative accompaniment of Amorawa, and constant attention to the physical, emotional and spiritual safety of each participant.

The Amazon can be intense, powerful and deeply transformative.
That's why entering it with proper guidance makes a big difference.

You don't just come here to travel.
You come to be accompanied on a threshold.

Testimonials of experiences with Amorawa

Throughout this process you are fully accompanied, sustained and supported by the person leading the ceremony, like a father accompanying his child, or a mother holding and nurturing her little one as she wanders on the journey within, taking giant steps towards a shift in consciousness.

Belén

Amorawa inspires me and accompanies me in the transit from the circumference of my existence towards the pulsating life that flows in gushes from the most sacred centre of my being, towards that space where all beings beat in a single heart of light and love, blessed and sheltered in the infinite love of our Mother Earth.

Rachel

My experience with ayahuasca was a before and after. I arrived at the retreat with my self-esteem as one might say from the
floors. And at the end I felt something that every person should be able to experience, because it cannot be explained in words.
I encourage everyone to experience it because it gives a lot of energy and peace.

Rachel

Simplicity, nature and relaxation in the area

During the retreat we will stay in simple spaces connected to nature, chosen to accompany the process of medicine, rest and integration.

We are not looking for a luxury experience disconnected from the territory, but rather a space that is well cared for, comfortable and coherent with the spirit of the retreat: closeness to the forest, simplicity, presence and connection with natural life.

Accommodation will be shared, also favouring the coexistence of the group and the sense of community that will be woven during the days of the process.

After the ceremonies and activities in nature, rest will be a fundamental part of the journey. For this reason, we will take care of the rhythms, the pause times and the spaces for integration.

Facilitators

We are a team of experienced professionals with long experience in working with master plants. Trained in various disciplines of consciousness, spirituality, nutrition, music, and different areas that allow us to offer a holistic approach in which we accompany from the heart and knowledge following three premises: awareness, love and responsibility.

We have specialised medical advice and first aid training certified by the Red Cross. We take care of the health of the people who come to us.

Taita Manuel Díaz

Bio

Manuel Mecías Díaz Cuaces is a traditional indigenous doctor, Taita and guardian of the ancestral knowledge of Yagé in the territory of Putumayo, Colombia. His path is deeply linked to traditional Amazonian medicine, herbal medicine, indigenous spirituality and the accompaniment of healing processes from the ancestral worldview.

Over the years she has dedicated her life to the preservation, transmission and care of traditional knowledge related to Yagé and medicinal plants, accompanying ceremonies, learning spaces and community processes aimed at spiritual, human and territorial well-being.

His commitment to cultural conservation and ancestral medicine led him to found and preside over the Cantos de la Tierra Foundation, an initiative created to protect and strengthen indigenous traditions, spiritual education and the conscious use of natural medicines. From this space he promotes social, cultural and community projects focused on the recovery of ancestral knowledge, community self-sufficiency and respectful connection with nature.

Manuel is also the creator of the Ancestral Centre in Rumiyaco, conceived as a space dedicated to healing, learning and spiritual encounter. Activities related to traditional medicine, the conservation of native and medicinal seeds, as well as community programmes linked to art, music, sport and cultural strengthening are developed there.

Her work integrates a deep knowledge of medicinal plants with a vision of community leadership based on the care of the territory, the transmission of ancestral memory and human accompaniment based on simplicity, listening and respect for life.

Throughout his journey, Manuel continues to build bridges between ancestral medicine, the community and the new generations, keeping alive a tradition that understands healing not only as an individual process, but as a profound relationship between the human being, nature and the spirit.

On the different values of the retreat

The final value of the retreat (corresponding to the last call) reflects the real cost of sustaining an experience of this depth in the Amazonian territory: the logistics in the jungle, the accompaniment, the ceremonies, the internal displacements, the work with communities and the human care necessary to sustain such a process in a responsible way.

However, we have decided to open a first stage of registration at a reduced rate for those who feel the call from the beginning and wish to help us manifest this retreat with confidence, commitment and clarity.

The first bookings allow us to begin to support the logistics, coordinate the territory, prepare the spaces and give shape to this experience with greater stability and presence.

In a way, those who respond early to the call also become part of the creation of the road.

Therefore, the retreat will go through different stages of registration as the group is formed and the journey takes shape.

Is it necessary to follow a diet beforehand?

Yes, it is common and widely recommended to follow a diet at least 3-4 days before taking ayahuasca.

The diet aims to prepare the body and mind for the ayahuasca experience, as this medicinal plant can interact with certain foods and medicines, and the diet can help to avoid complications or discomfort during the ceremony. In addition, the diet can facilitate a deeper connection to the medicine and the purification process.

Here is a general guide to the recommended diet and the foods that are not recommended before taking ayahuasca:

Recommended diet before ayahuasca:

  1. Abstain from drugs and medicinesAvoid the use of psychoactive substances, such as alcohol, marijuana, recreational drugs and certain medications. If you are taking prescription medications, it is important to consult with a health professional about whether it is safe to temporarily discontinue their use.

  2. Light foodsOpt for a light and simple diet to facilitate purification and avoid stomach upset. This includes fresh vegetables, fruits, light soups and whole grains.

  3. Avoid processed foods and high-fat foods.Avoid processed, fried or high-fat foods, as they can hinder digestion and the experience during the ceremony.

  4. Avoid stimulant foodsAvoid foods containing caffeine, such as coffee, tea and chocolate, as they can interfere with the ayahuasca process and affect the quality of the experience.

  5. Avoid foods rich in tyramineTyramine is an amino acid found in certain foods that can interact with ayahuasca, potentially causing unwanted side effects. Examples are aged cheeses, sausages, red wine and fermented foods.

  6. Avoid foods rich in tyryptophanTryptophan is an amino acid found in certain foods and can influence serotonin in the body. It is advisable to avoid foods rich in tryptophan before the ayahuasca ceremony. Examples are turkey, chicken, and dairy products.

The following are some of the most important contraindications for taking master plants:

  1. Heart disease and high blood pressureThese remedies may have stimulating effects on the cardiovascular system, which could be risky for people with heart problems or high blood pressure.

  2. Psychiatric disordersPeople who have a history of psychiatric disorders, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or severe anxiety and depressive disorders, should avoid using these plants, as they may exacerbate these disorders.

  3. Use of medicines and drugsSome drugs can interact negatively with ayahuasca, especially those that affect the central nervous system or serotonin. It is also important to avoid taking other drugs before or during ayahuasca.

  4. PregnancyPregnant women should avoid consumption due to possible unknown effects on the foetus.

  5. BreastfeedingNot recommended for use during breast-feeding, as the active ingredients may pass into breast milk and affect the baby.

  6. Monoamine oxidase inhibitor drugs (MAOIs)Ayahuasca contains components that can interact with MAOIs, a class of drugs used to treat depression and other disorders. Combining these plants with MAOIs can cause dangerous reactions.

In any case, people with serious or chronic health conditions, or other conditions, should consult us prior to withdrawal to assess their case.
