The Path of the Ancients:
A Primitive and Sacred Way of Saint James

Since time immemorial, roads have been portals to the unknown, paths of initiation where the soul confronts its own essence. The Primitive Way,the oldest route to Compostela, is more than just a physical journey: it is a rite of passage,a journey of transformation where the footsteps echo with the echoes of the ancient druids, the whispers of the sacred forests and the wisdom of the stars.

From Romeán to Santiago,we venture on a pilgrimage that intertwines the strength of the journey with the healing of the Ayahuasca, the path of the ancient Celts and the vision of the Amazonian peoples. Two traditions separated by oceans, but connected by the same mystery: the journey to the spirit.

The Call of the Road:
Symbology and Mystery

The Celts saw the forest as a living temple, and each stone as a testimony to the ancestors. On this journey, we will travel through valleys and mountains steeped in magic, passing through places of power, where the energy of Earth and Sky intertwine.

The sacred oak

Tree of the Druids, guardian of knowledge, it accompanies us on this path as a symbol of strength and connection with the divine.

Water and purification

Fountains and rivers remind us of the flow of life and the need to let go of what no longer belongs to us.

Stars and Destiny

The Milky Way, guide of pilgrims and shamanic navigators, shows us the way to consciousness.

The Templar legacy

On this path, the traces of the Knights Templar, guardians of ancient secrets, echo. Their symbols are hidden in churches and paths, such as the Pate Cross, the Grail and magical inscriptions.

Each day will be a gateway to transformation, combining walking with sacred medicine, rituals of connection with the elements and spiritual practices to open the heart and inner vision.

This retreat is designed to take you on a medicinal route through:

Altar of ancestral remedies

Journey and experience of Amazonian and ancestral medicine.

The meeting

A space of non-judgement where we all come to open our hearts and accompany each other in love.

Sharing circle

Materialising through our voices the feelings and comprehensions that we receive through opening up.

The weaving of history

A vision into the past of everything that brought us to the present moment, giving coherence to what happened.

Reading the territory

A connection with the land where we are, to comprehend how we relate to it.

Songs and meditations

A moment in which the being manifests itself by awakening a vibratory state of presence and expansion.

Conscious eating

Becoming aware of the physiological and emotional sensations of the process of eating.

Beginning of the Path of the Ancients

23 June
1st Stage: Lugo - Ferreira (29km)
Connection with the earth and the essence

The beginning of this path calls us to connect with what is essential, with what has always sustained us: the earth. As pilgrims, we leave behind the unnecessary and surrender to the path with humility, consciously treading each step. This stage reminds us that everything solid had its origin in the subtle and that, before reaching any goal, we must honour our roots.

24 June
2nd Stage: Ferreira - Melide (21km)
The way of faith

The pilgrim advances not only with his feet, but also with his trust in the mystery. On this stretch, the Camino speaks to us of faith: not only in the divine, but in our own capacity to move forward. We encounter the footprints of those who have travelled these routes before us, leaving behind them the energy of their prayers, doubts and certainties. Faith on the Camino is not a dogma, but a personal discovery that reveals itself in every encounter and in every silence.

25 June
3rd Stage: Melide - Arzúa (14 km)
Abundance

The spirit of the Camino is generous and invites us to receive with gratitude and to give from the heart. The legend of the hungry pilgrim and the bread turned to gold teaches us that true wealth is not measured in possessions, but in hospitality, compassion and giving.
Today we walk with an open heart, recognising that every encounter is a gift and that the universe always provides when we trust its flow. Abundance is a state of being, a reflection of our capacity to share and receive without attachment.

26 June
4th Stage: Arzúa - O Pino (17 km)
Healing and Rebirth

The path takes us into the sacred oak forest, a natural sanctuary where time seems to be suspended. The waters that surround the path invite us to heal, to release what we no longer need and to allow body and spirit to find rest.
Here, water is medicine. We wash not only the wounds of the feet, but also those that the soul has borne during the journey. On this stretch, body and mind align with the rhythm of the path, and healing manifests itself in stillness, in rest, in silence. We learn that transformation does not always come with a bang, but with the softness of an enveloping breeze.

27 June
Stage 5: O Pino - Santiago (22 km)
The Sacred Threshold

We are nearing the end of the journey, but the real closure is not in the arrival, but in the way we have travelled the road. On this day, each step is both a farewell and a welcome. We prepare to cross a threshold, aware that something in us has changed forever.

In the late afternoon we will have a circle of integration, in which everyone will be able to express what they have experienced, the insights they have gained and the seeds they have taken away from this journey.

farewell Santiago

28 June
End of Retreat
Farewell and closing

We will meet in the morning to share a last breakfast together, a moment of farewell, gratitude and hugs before we each go our own way.

With a full heart, we say goodbye knowing that this journey does not end here, but continues to beat with every step we take in our lives. May the spirit of the Camino continue to accompany us.

The Mystery of the Way

The Way gives us spaces full of history and spirituality: ancient hermitages where pilgrims have left their prayers, churches where the echo of centuries-old chants resounds, sacred forests that have witnessed ancestral rituals, dolmens and pagan altars that still vibrate with the energy of those who consecrated them. We will come across Templar temples that remind us of the protection of walkers and fountains whose waters have been considered curative since time immemorial.

But the Camino is a flow without rigidity. We do not know with certainty which places will welcome us or which paths will call us to turn off. There is no written route, only intuition and openness to what the Camino wants to show us. In surprise and amazement lies the real teaching: we trust that the places we need to find will be the places that find us.

Ancestral Remedies

Guardians of ancestral wisdom, they have been used throughout history by different indigenous cultures as portals to a deeper comprehension of nature and the human being. They have the power to open the doors of perception, providing visions and experiences that transcend the limits of the ordinary. Each with its own properties and effects, guiding us on a journey into the inner consciousness and the heart, and inviting us to explore the connection between heaven and earth.

Click on "Learn more" to access complete guides to the information on each Remedy.

*Kambo is not included in the cost of the retreat. It is a complementary remedy that can be requested separately at an additional cost.

A Sacred Journey, an Encounter with the Soul

This is not just any path, but an act of surrender. The Camino de Santiago brings us face to face with the mystery of existence, and Ayahuasca offers us the key to decipher it.

Testimonials

Throughout this process you are fully accompanied, sustained and supported by the person leading the ceremony, like a father accompanying his child, or a mother holding and nurturing her little one as she wanders on the journey within, taking giant steps towards a shift in consciousness.

Belén

Amorawa inspires me and accompanies me in the transit from the circumference of my existence towards the pulsating life that flows in gushes from the most sacred centre of my being, towards that space where all beings beat in a single heart of light and love, blessed and sheltered in the infinite love of our Mother Earth.

John

Rachel

My experience with ayahuasca was a before and after. I arrived at the retreat with my self-esteem as one might say from the
floors. And at the end I felt something that every person should be able to experience, because it cannot be explained in words.
I encourage everyone to experience it because it gives a lot of energy and peace.

Carlos

Bio

Having trained in Zen Buddhism and Eastern philosophy since my adolescence, in my youth I followed the path of shamanism which led me to the knowledge of the Master Plants and their wisdom.

Through my personal process of awareness and liberation, I was able to walk a path where I became coherent with my Self. And through this knowledge, today I can share healing and awareness.

My purpose is to accompany people to rediscover themselves in order to live in harmony with themselves and with nature.

Is it necessary to follow a diet beforehand?

Yes, it is common and widely recommended to follow a diet at least 3-4 days before taking ayahuasca.

The diet aims to prepare the body and mind for the ayahuasca experience, as this medicinal plant can interact with certain foods and medicines, and the diet can help to avoid complications or discomfort during the ceremony. In addition, the diet can facilitate a deeper connection to the medicine and the purification process.

Here is a general guide to the recommended diet and the foods that are not recommended before taking ayahuasca:

Recommended diet before ayahuasca:

  1. Abstain from drugs and medicinesAvoid the use of psychoactive substances, such as alcohol, marijuana, recreational drugs and certain medications. If you are taking prescription medications, it is important to consult with a health professional about whether it is safe to temporarily discontinue their use.

  2. Light foodsOpt for a light and simple diet to facilitate purification and avoid stomach upset. This includes fresh vegetables, fruits, light soups and whole grains.

  3. Avoid processed foods and high-fat foods.Avoid processed, fried or high-fat foods, as they can hinder digestion and the experience during the ceremony.

  4. Avoid stimulant foodsAvoid foods containing caffeine, such as coffee, tea and chocolate, as they can interfere with the ayahuasca process and affect the quality of the experience.

  5. Avoid foods rich in tyramineTyramine is an amino acid found in certain foods that can interact with ayahuasca, potentially causing unwanted side effects. Examples are aged cheeses, sausages, red wine and fermented foods.

  6. Avoid foods rich in tyryptophanTryptophan is an amino acid found in certain foods and can influence serotonin in the body. It is advisable to avoid foods rich in tryptophan before the ayahuasca ceremony. Examples are turkey, chicken, and dairy products.

The following are some of the most important contraindications for taking master plants:

  1. Heart disease and high blood pressureThese remedies may have stimulating effects on the cardiovascular system, which could be risky for people with heart problems or high blood pressure.

  2. Psychiatric disordersPeople who have a history of psychiatric disorders, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or severe anxiety and depressive disorders, should avoid using these plants, as they may exacerbate these disorders.

  3. Use of medicines and drugsSome drugs can interact negatively with ayahuasca, especially those that affect the central nervous system or serotonin. It is also important to avoid taking other drugs before or during ayahuasca.

  4. PregnancyPregnant women should avoid consumption due to possible unknown effects on the foetus.

  5. BreastfeedingNot recommended for use during breast-feeding, as the active ingredients may pass into breast milk and affect the baby.

  6. Monoamine oxidase inhibitor drugs (MAOIs)Ayahuasca contains components that can interact with MAOIs, a class of drugs used to treat depression and other disorders. Combining these plants with MAOIs can cause dangerous reactions.

In any case, people with serious or chronic health conditions, or other conditions, should consult us prior to withdrawal to assess their case.

The Camino de Santiago is a transformative experience, but also a physical challenge that requires preparation. To fully enjoy it and avoid injuries, it is advisable to train in the previous months. Here is a practical guide to strengthen your endurance and adapt to the effort.

  • Abdominal plank (3 sets of 30-60 seconds) for stability on long walks.

3. Cardiovascular Endurance

It complements with activities such as:

  • Cycling or swimming 1-2 times a week.
  • Climbing stairs or walking on slopes to strengthen legs.

4. Carrying and Use of the Backpack

  • Walk with the backpack you will use, progressively increasing weight up to 6-8 kg.
  • Adjust the backpack to avoid back discomfort.

5. Foot Care

  • Wear the same shoes you will wear on the Camino and adjust them well.
  • Try different socks to avoid blisters.
  • Moisturise your feet and trim your nails regularly.

6. Stretching and Recovery

  • Spend 10 minutes after each walk stretching your legs, back and ankles.
