Awareness and deepening retreat
with Wachuma
in the Basque Country

From 17 to 20 July 2025

A profound encounter
between the sun and the stars

We invite you to live a unique experience of reconnection and expansion through the ancestral remedy of the Wachuma, also known as San Pedro. This is a four-day retreat dedicated exclusively to deepening our understanding of this master plant. Unlike other meetings where it is usually shared in a single ceremony or in combination in retreat with other plants such as Ayahuasca, this proposal is born with the intention of opening a deep and sustained space where we can give ourselves completely to this cactus of the heart, observing and honouring its two manifestations: the solar clarity of the day and the stellar mystery of the night.

We held this meeting in the middle of summer, taking advantage of the mild northern temperatures and the warmth of the soul that flourishes in the open air, in a sacred site surrounded by forests, rivers and ancient traces of wisdom that still breathe on Earth. Here, under the open sky, we will share two ceremonies - one by day and one by night.- which will allow us to enter into direct dialogue with nature and with our own essence, accompanied by chanting, silence, presence and loving guidance. The retreat is also open to other practices that nourish the path: conscious walks, breathing, connection with the elements and the support of other allied plants that accompany us with subtlety and harmony.

This call is for those who feel that the time has come to open the heart,to listen deeply and to remember the living medicine that dwells in all that we are.

What is Wachuma and how do we work with it?

The Heart Cactus

Wachuma, also known as San Pedro, is an ancestral remedy from the Andes, used since ancient times by native peoples as a bridge between the visible world and the spiritual world. Its medicine opens perception, silences the mind and expands the heart, allowing an intimate connection with nature, with others and with our deepest essence.

This sacred cactus guides us with firmness and tenderness, showing us inner paths that we sometimes forget, helping us to remember the sacred in the simple, in what we already are.

A Path of Conscious Healing

Used in appropriate contexts, with respect and presence, Wachuma can be a powerful ally for processes of emotional healing, energetic release and spiritual reconnection. It acts gently, allowing to observe without judgement, to forgive with love and to let go with clarity.

Its action extends beyond the ceremony, sowing a new outlook on life, strengthening intuition and reminding us of our capacity to love unconditionally.

Ceremony to honour the elements

In this retreat we ceremonialise and honour the energies of Earth, Water, Fire and Air.

Through chanting, silence, offering and listening, we commune with the elements to rebalance ourselves, give thanks and remember our cyclical and living nature.

A Retreat in Communion with Nature

The Wachuma awakens its greatest power in direct contact with the Earth. That is why this retreat is held outdoors, in a natural setting where trees, rivers and stars accompany us every step of the way. The environment is not just a stage, it is a living part of the process.

Sharing this path together, in a circle, allows us to support each other, to learn from each other's mirror and to return to the essential: the sincere encounter with oneself and with life.

Who is this retreat for?

Amorawa inspires me and accompanies me in the transit from the circumference of my existence towards the pulsating life that flows in gushes from the most sacred centre of my being, towards that space where all beings beat in a single heart of light and love, blessed and sheltered in the infinite love of our Mother Earth.

Rachel

My experience with ayahuasca was a before and after. I arrived at the retreat with my self-esteem as one might say from the
floors. And at the end I felt something that every person should be able to experience, because it cannot be explained in words.
I encourage everyone to experience it because it gives a lot of energy and peace.

Location

The retreat will be held in a natural environment of exceptional beauty and purity, located in an area protected for its high ecological and scenic value. Surrounded by ancient oak and beech forests, sacred mountains and ancient paths, this place invites you to meditation, silence and a deep connection with the Earth. The land where we will stay has a large meadow open to the sky, trees that embrace the space and direct access to fresh water, perfect for ritual baths or simply resting in contact with nature. The house, powered by solar energy and spring water, offers a simple and comfortable welcome, with rooms to share and rest, as well as outdoor spaces to hang in hammocks, breathe and let go.

The environment preserves an ancestral memory: dolmens, ancient paths and legends that still live in the mountains. It is a living place, where the presence of the sacred is felt in every corner, in the songs of the forest, in the morning mist and in the strength of the earth underfoot. An ideal setting to open your heart, immerse yourself in the medicine of the Wachuma and walk inwards, sustained by the natural beauty and the silence of the landscape. Just one hour from Bilbao and San Sebastian, and 30 minutes from Vitoria-Gasteiz.

My purpose is to accompany people to rediscover themselves in order to live in harmony with themselves and with nature.

Is it necessary to follow a diet beforehand?

Yes, it is common and widely recommended to follow a diet at least 3-4 days before taking ayahuasca.

The diet aims to prepare the body and mind for the ayahuasca experience, as this medicinal plant can interact with certain foods and medicines, and the diet can help to avoid complications or discomfort during the ceremony. In addition, the diet can facilitate a deeper connection to the medicine and the purification process.

Here is a general guide to the recommended diet and the foods that are not recommended before taking ayahuasca:

Recommended diet before ayahuasca:

  1. Abstain from drugs and medicinesAvoid the use of psychoactive substances, such as alcohol, marijuana, recreational drugs and certain medications. If you are taking prescription medications, it is important to consult with a health professional about whether it is safe to temporarily discontinue their use.

  2. Light foodsOpt for a light and simple diet to facilitate purification and avoid stomach upset. This includes fresh vegetables, fruits, light soups and whole grains.

  3. Avoid processed foods and high-fat foods.Avoid processed, fried or high-fat foods, as they can hinder digestion and the experience during the ceremony.

  4. Avoid stimulant foodsAvoid foods containing caffeine, such as coffee, tea and chocolate, as they can interfere with the ayahuasca process and affect the quality of the experience.

  5. Avoid foods rich in tyramineTyramine is an amino acid found in certain foods that can interact with ayahuasca, potentially causing unwanted side effects. Examples are aged cheeses, sausages, red wine and fermented foods.

  6. Avoid foods rich in tyryptophanTryptophan is an amino acid found in certain foods and can influence serotonin in the body. It is advisable to avoid foods rich in tryptophan before the ayahuasca ceremony. Examples are turkey, chicken, and dairy products.

The following are some of the most important contraindications for taking master plants:

  1. Heart disease and high blood pressureThese remedies may have stimulating effects on the cardiovascular system, which could be risky for people with heart problems or high blood pressure.

  2. Psychiatric disordersPeople who have a history of psychiatric disorders, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or severe anxiety and depressive disorders, should avoid using these plants, as they may exacerbate these disorders.

  3. Use of medicines and drugsSome drugs can interact negatively with ayahuasca, especially those that affect the central nervous system or serotonin. It is also important to avoid taking other drugs before or during ayahuasca.

  4. PregnancyPregnant women should avoid consumption due to possible unknown effects on the foetus.

  5. BreastfeedingNot recommended for use during breast-feeding, as the active ingredients may pass into breast milk and affect the baby.

  6. Monoamine oxidase inhibitor drugs (MAOIs)Ayahuasca contains components that can interact with MAOIs, a class of drugs used to treat depression and other disorders. Combining these plants with MAOIs can cause dangerous reactions.

In any case, people with serious or chronic health conditions, or other conditions, should consult us prior to withdrawal to assess their case.
